Our Commitment to running successful events
To ensure our events run successfully and as smoothly as possible for all residents and businesses we have a wide range of event planning processes and procedures including working closely with the South Norfolk Council’s Safety Advisory Group. We wanted to develop this page to provide you with key information to support you as a local resident.
South Norfolk Council Safety Advisory Group
The role of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) is a free service to ensure event organisers hold their events safely and legally with minimal disruption to the local community.
The SAG is made up of officers from your local and county councils, Norfolk Constabulary, East of England Ambulance Service and Norfolk Fire and Rescue, all of whom will support event organiser/s in the smooth running of a successful event however the responsibility for the management of the event still remains with the event organiser. You can find out more about the SAG on their website Safety advisory group | Broadland and South Norfolk.
In addition please find the form we complete and send to the SAG for all of our events here: SAG Event Notification Form
Event road closure information
As part of our commitment to providing our residents with advance notice of road closures for events we provide information to our local residents, business owners and bus companies using a variety of methods so everyone can find out about the road closures easily. This includes:
- Temporary restriction orders (TRO’s) for all our events are published on the website here: Traffic Orders – Harleston Town Council (harleston-tc.gov.uk)
- Information letters and posters published in the Grapevine, on the Town Council website, notice boards, hand delivered to impacted residents and businesses and emailed to our local bus companies.
We will keep this page up to date for all our 2025 event road closures.
Noise and events
We work hard when planning our events, setting up, during the event and when closing to ensure noise is managed and kept, as much as possible, to a minimum with the aim of not negatively impacting our neighbours. However, with events comes noise and we acknowledge no matter how much planning and management noise can impact you as a local resident.
We recommend you keep up to date with our events so do sign up to our Town Council news posts and do take a look at our Visit Harleston page or Facebook page.
If on the day you need to report excessive noise, we recommend you do this in person during the event by speaking to one of our friendly stewards who will be able to help. It is really helpful if you can take a note of the nature, date, time, and location of noise disturbances and provide this to the stewards.
Once we have received the information we aim to:
- Promptly acknowledge your report
- Assess the report following our noise procedures
- We maintain comprehensive records for reference and transparency.
- We will keep you informed about investigation outcomes.
- You can also provide us with feedback on the event using one of the following channels:
- email us at enquiries@harleston-tc.gov.uk
- use the contact us page
- or phone us on 01379 854519
