Description
The site of St Mary’s, Redenhall has been used for worship for around 1,000 years, and for certain, a round towered church was here before the present one was built in the 1400s and 1500s.
This is a magnificent church which although fallen on poorer times has significant items of interest and also a played significant role in history.
St Marys was the spiritual home for the Fuller family who were onboard the Mayflower ship on her historic journey of 1620 with the Pilgrim Fathers. They were part of the 102 passengers who made the treacherous voyage across the Atlantic. Edward Fuller and Samuel Fuller Senior went on to sign their governing document called the Compact. This is widely believed to form the basis for the American Constitution.
There remains a bond with the Fullers though the Fuller Society in America who kindly donated a plaque as a symbol of our lasting friendship and this is on display in the church.
